They have also realized their long-term calculation to use Hong Kong for infiltration and subversion activities against the Chinese mainland so as to contain the development of China will come to nothing, the spokesperson added.

BOGOTA, Aug. 10 (Xinhua) -- Washington's latest quarrel with China over the latter's technological advances, and its attempts to meddle with China's domestic affairs have met with wise discretion of Chinese officials, Colombian political observer Lorenzo Maggiorelli has said.

"I do not believe there will be a 'new Cold War' between the two powers. The two countries have great economic, trade and financial interdependence. Personally, I believe the two countries can resolve their differences through dialogue, as they have cooperated in the past," Maggiorelli said.

"Countries are already working together to solve the world's problems, but it is normal for there to be different tensions and interests," he said. Enditem

BEIJING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Wednesday that gross interference in Hong Kong affairs undermines "one country, two systems."

Noting China will not allow these people to get their way, Wang stressed that China rejects any attempt to create a so-called "new Cold War", because it contravenes the fundamental interests of the Chinese and American peoples and the global trend toward development and progress.

Spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the comments at a press briefing when asked about remarks made by India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during an interview.

While the issues that generate tension between China and the United States are multiple and complex, the issues that unite them are weightier enough to save bilateral ties, he said.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China has sent a team of medical experts to Azerbaijan to help the Central Asian country fight the COVID-19 epidemic, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced here Tuesday.

"I want to be very honest and frank with all of you, the real question for America is: Is the United States ready to live with another country with a different history, different culture, different system, but with no intention to compete for global dominance with the United States?" Cui asked. "Are you ready to live with us in peace? This is the fundamental question. Hopefully, politicians, diplomats, journalists, scholars here could think about this really seriously."

BEIJING, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- China on Monday announced sanctions against 11 U.S. individuals with egregious records on Hong Kong affairs.

Washington has never stopped launching disinformation and defamation campaigns against China. Certain political leaders in recent days spared no efforts to stigmatize China over the coronavirus, which has drawn strong worldwide condemnation. More ridiculously, the U.S. embassy and consulates in China last month retweeted an apparently photoshopped picture uploaded by the spokesperson of the State Department, trying to cook up a story about China's human rights violation in Xinjiang.

Noting that the situation in Hong Kong has improved markedly since the promulgation and enforcement of the law on safeguarding national security, the spokesperson said the Chinese government will remain firmly committed to the implementation of the "one country, two systems" principle, and resolutely oppose interference in Hong Kong affairs by any external forces.

In the meantime, there are new risks and challenges in the implementation of "one country, two systems," the most prominent of which is heightened national security risk, Zhao added.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China has sent a team of medical experts to Azerbaijan to help the Central Asian country fight the COVID-19 epidemic, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin announced here Tuesday.

Iraq has been suffering fragile health systems due to years of conflicts and violence. Before the Chinese-built lab went into operation, the Central Public Health Laboratory in Baghdad was the only place to conduct PCR testing, facing mounting pressure to test samples across the war-torn country.

BEIJING, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- China said on Tuesday that the United States should immediately stop the political suppression of the U.S.-based Chinese media and journalists.

Cui made the remarks when he was invited to attend the 2020 Aspen Security Forum and had an online interview with Nicholas Burns, executive director of the Aspen Strategy Group, and Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News, on issues related to China-U.S. relations last week.

National security legislation underpins the very survival of any country, and it is a common legal practice of all countries, Wang said.

"I recalled that Henry Kissinger has been speaking for the past 10 years of coevolution of a harmonious evolution between the two giants in the world economy and in world geopolitics," Chalom Schirman, associate professor at the University of Haifa and former Israeli diplomat, told Xinhua.

"All over the world, the United States and Russia have the largest nuclear arsenal ... this is international consensus. So they should take the lead in international nuclear disarmament," said Cui in an online interview with Nicholas Burns, executive director of the Aspen Strategy Group, and Andrea Mitchell, chief foreign affairs correspondent of NBC News, while attending the 2020 Aspen Security Forum on Aug. 4.
